Testament

Interview with guitarist Eric Peterson

It’s been 15 years since you toured Australia and around 42 years since the band first formed. What do you feel is the drive, motivation and even hunger that keeps the band going?

We’ve been dong this for a while now and thinking about it as these were some of the questions asked before, I’d have to say not by design or plan, getting new blood in the band with drummers. This line up has been pretty steady minus the drums, Gene was with us for a good 10 years, we got Dave Lombardo back for a little bit but our new drummer Chris Dovas, he’s like my son’s age and his influences are similar to ours. We had a great time writing the new record and just revisiting a lot of new stuff we haven’t played ina long time especially Practice What you Preach that we just did in the States. Plus bringning some of the ballads and deep cuts we haven’t played.

You mentioned about the tour you just came off which was called An Evening with Testament, tell us about that tour and how the fans reacted to it?

We are going to do it it again now, so it was a good idea and we just threw it together. Usually when you have an idea like that you plan it out but we kind of threw it together in like about six weeks when we started and we weren’t sure what we wanted to do. We knew we wanted to get back out on the road but we didn’t want to go and do the same thing and we were like we have Practice what you Preach coming back out again Remastered so let’s go do that and maybe try one of the songs acoustic which then turned into a whole acoustic part. We started playing Return to Serenity on a previous tour so we thought why not do more ballads. We went from being brutally heavy two years ago and all of a suddent we are playing all ballads and while we are at it why don’t we do some deep cuts. So here we are with a two hour set talking about old times, telling stories and playing these songs and switching over to acoustics, it was alot of fun.
